XSights – Transforms static media to dynamic and interactive one

May 27th, 2009

As and when I read stories about newspaper industry losing business to online world, one thing pops up in my mind how can they compete and what can be done to survive this printed media business. Advertising is the major source of revenue for newspaper/magazines/catalogs and day by day advertisers are moving from printed media to online advertising for their product and services. Printed media industry and particularly newspaper industry is challenged by web and mobile world and it is getting difficult for them to catch up with technological advances in web and mobile world. Sources like Twitter is being use as first and foremost source of news breaker and people (specially young people) use tools like Facebook, Friendfeed to keep them update with live streams. How do printed media companies keep the same number of audience or how can they increase their audience and compete with web world?

Xsights is one of the best solution I have came across recently. They provide solution to the degenerating printed media by transforming paper into internet. How? Using XSights publishers can use the convergence platform (convergence of mobile and print media) to provide a new life to newspaper. Their solution provides not only convergence of printed media with online world but at the same time enables the convergence of advertising sales force allowing cross media advertising campaign.

Publishers will use Xsight’s technology by providing hyperlinks in their printed content and readers will use their camera on their cell phone to view the interactive content. Check out the demo here

Using Xsights printed media companies will be able deliver readers interactive experience by showing contextual content. Now a days companies are targeting their audience to sell their product and services by creating new videos on youtube and many other sites, same experience can be provided to newspaper/magazine readers through their mobile. Xsight provides interactive, dynamic, multimedia content on the go (view as you read)

Xsigths do have the potential to be savior for newspaper industry as it can intact the readers and might attract new audiences. This technology has loads of potential – View As You Go concept can be used for product information, selling product, playing games, watching movie trailers and son.

Thumbs Up to Xsights.

Wall Street Journal aka WSJ turning into Wall Street Masala (Gossip)

February 27th, 2009

Wall Street Journal is known for printing news paper full of financial news on front page. But recently I have observed it publishing more gossip stories than news about finance, quarterly results of various companies, economic situation of United States and World and other business related news.

If you see news paper edition of 02/25/2009 you will see a love story of Chander Mohan aka Chand Mohammad (former deputy Chief Minister (equivalent to the position of Governor in US) of Haryana ) right on the front page.

With the advent of internet, blogs, twitter, online video news channel etc. news paper industry is losing money and we see more and more people reading news on internet rather than the traditional source such as news paper. To increase sales, news paper like WSJ is employing good old technique of publishing gossip story on front page. Sex always sells and WSJ adopting that “dirty” strategy to sell more news paper seems very low.

chander-mohan

Well can someone please explain me why in the world WSJ will publish a love story of Deputy Chief Minister of one of the state of India on front page? Do they have no contents to publish on front page? Is it some kind of political move by WSJ (they did print a story about Vikram Pandit (CEO of Citigroup) to defile reputation of some executives? Do WSJ ever print Britney Spears or Paris Hilton Story on front page? Is it an attempt to attack of secular democracy in India?

It would be more pleasing and interesting to see financial and business news on front page by news paper like WSJ. If they want to publish such story it will be more apt if they put it somewhere in the inside pages and precisely in gossip section.
