Story of WordPerfect – Change is the rule of life

April 24th, 2009

Seth Godin wrote a post about – Pick Anything- Calculus of Change and few days back I read a book (story) Almost Perfect (you can read the book online for free) about WordPerfect authored by one of the executive of  the maker of software. The book describes the rise and fall of WordPerfect.

As mentioned by Seth Godin change in Operating System brought Microsoft Word into limelight and once ubiquitous WordPerfect is almost vanished now. Change is the rule of life where everyone participates and molds themselves. We can see change around us all the time – the way people are embracing Twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed, Blogs  is one of the example of how these tools are changing the way people disseminate news and information.

That’s why we saw influx of web 2.0 start ups in 2006-2008 where every other entrepreneur was selling/marketting their ideas (no matter how crappy was it). For example if we consider 100 web 2.0 application then 15 survives and 5 of them excel and become maas’s product and that brings the change which we adopt by using these products.

There is inherent Power in Change and one has to capitalize the moment to make use of the Change.

Tech Mahindra wins a bid to buy Satyam Computers for 577.8 Million USD

April 13th, 2009

Tech Mahindra will acquire Satyam Computers at approximately $1.5/share for approximate total of $577.8 M  (2889 Crores INR at 58 Rs/share )  Satyam Computer will operate as a separate entity with separate liabilities. There were other bidders too – L & T, Cognizant etc.

merger

Tech Mahindra will buy31% stake in Satyam by paying $351.4 M approximately (1757 Crores INR). The transition procedure will be long and it will happen gradually. Tech Mahindra and Satyam Computers together will be a good competition to Indian/Major World IT Consulting Companies. They will be in same league as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Accenture, IBM etc.

Tech Mahindra’s stock soared during trading at BSE.

This move is a good one for Satyam as a company but as usual with merger and acquisition there will be shredding in some division and removal of redundant positions at executive levels.
